The Billiground Police, on 14th July 2025, seized 1.167 kilograms of illicit ganja and arrested an individual from Shantipur Ward No. 02, following suspicious exercise noticed throughout a routine patrol.
According to the FIR, the operation started when a police group, whereas patrolling the world, observed a person carrying a plastic bag. Upon seeing the police group, the person tried to evade them by rapidly altering route and strolling away. This habits raised suspicion, and the patrolling group intercepted him.
Upon questioning, the person failed to supply any legitimate identification paperwork or present a passable rationalization. He recognized himself however continued to seem panicked. Based on this, the police, suspecting involvement in a cognizable offence, determined to examine the contents of the bag he was carrying.
On checking, the patrolling group discovered a substance resembling ganja contained in the plastic bag. They instantly knowledgeable SI Deben Kumar Roy, Officer-in-Charge of PS Billiground.
Given the sensitivity of the case and the absence of the SDPO on account of official duties, SI Roy contacted a Gazetted Officer from APWD, requesting his presence for the formal search and seizure. The Scene of Crime Officer, unbiased witnesses, and extra police personnel had been mobilized to the scene together with the required paperwork, a weighing scale, and a drug detection package.
At the placement, the bag was formally opened within the presence of the unbiased witnesses and the Gazetted Officer. It contained 517 grams of a substance suspected to be ganja, which was proven to and smelled by the witnesses. Based on their response, the substance was believed to be illicit.
Further interrogation of the person revealed that he had extra of the substance saved at his residence. The group proceeded to his home, and a home search discover was served. There, a pale inexperienced and crimson plastic bag was recovered from underneath a cot. It contained three packets, which held 498 grams, 101 grams, and 51 grams of ganja, respectively.
All packets had been opened, proven to the witnesses, and subjected to on-the-spot testing utilizing the drug detection package by the Scene of Crime Officer, AP Nasreen, who confirmed the substance to be ganja.
The complete amount seized — together with each on the roadside and the residence — amounted to 1.167 kilograms of unlawful ganja.
A case underneath Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985, has been registered.
