The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and Veterinary Hospital, Campbell Bay, organized a two-day coaching programme on ‘Scientific Rearing of Teressa Goat and Nicobari Pig Management’ at Rajeev Nagar, Nicobari Community Hall, Great Nicobar, on August 25 and 26, 2025.
The programme aimed toward enhancing livestock productiveness and creating sustainable livelihood alternatives for tribal farmers within the Nicobar Islands.
The coaching was inaugurated by Mr. Barnabas Manju, Chairman, Tribal Council, Great Nicobar, within the presence of Tribal Captains from completely different components of Little Nicobar Island. Their participation mirrored the group’s dedication to adopting scientific strategies of livestock rearing.
Technical classes have been led by Dr. Parag Deori and Dr. Manoj S. Gowda, supported by Veterinary Compounders Ms. Magdaleen, Ms. N.Ok. Yashmeen Shabnam, and Mr. Hamilton. The consultants coated a variety of subjects together with the scope of Teressa Goat farming, housing programs, breeding administration, care of children and piglets, feeding practices, record-keeping, illness management, and the financial potential of goat and pig rearing. Practical strategies to enhance livestock productiveness and guarantee sustainability have been emphasised throughout the classes.
The initiative underlines the AH&VS Department’s dedication to selling scientific livestock practices and supporting the agricultural financial system of the islands. The enthusiastic participation of tribal farmers highlighted their eagerness to undertake trendy strategies for enhancing agricultural and livestock-based livelihoods.
The Department has assured that related programmes will proceed sooner or later, in keeping with the A&N Administration’s imaginative and prescient of fostering sustainable improvement and strengthening livelihood safety in tribal communities.
