In line with the directive of the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, to conduct month-to-month mock drills throughout departments for strengthening preparedness and selling self-discipline, the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) carried out a mock drill on a boat capsize state of affairs on October 10 on the Marine Dockyard.
The train simulated the capsize of the vessel ML Ramakrishna and was carried out underneath the general supervision of the Incident Commander, Mr. B. C. Sarkar, Deputy Director (Shipping Services). The catastrophe administration workforce of DSS actively participated within the drill, which aimed to evaluate and improve emergency response capabilities.
As a part of the train, 20 personnel, simulating passengers and crew members, have been efficiently evacuated to the designated protected space within the Passenger Hall. A coordinated search and rescue operation was carried out, throughout which the response workforce boarded MV Mohit outfitted with important gear resembling a transportable DG set, pump set, and life jackets to sort out the simulated emergency.
Two circumstances of minor accidents have been additionally simulated and promptly attended to by the primary help workforce on standby, outfitted with a medical first help equipment. The complete operation was executed in a well-coordinated method, demonstrating efficient teamwork and adherence to security protocols.
The Directorate reaffirmed its dedication to passenger and personnel security, emphasizing that such common mock drills are important for fostering a tradition of preparedness, self-discipline, and resilience in coping with marine emergencies.
