The Juvenile Justice Committee (JJC) of the High Court at Calcutta organized a programme on “Strengthening the Role of Investigation, Prosecution and Judiciary, particularly in POCSO Cases” on the Court Hall of the Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court, Port Blair.
The occasion was graced by Hon’ble Justice Shampa Sarkar, Judge, High Court at Calcutta and Chairperson, Juvenile Justice Committee, who set the tone for the deliberations. Hon’ble Justice Ananya Bandyopadhyay, Judge, High Court at Calcutta, additionally attended the programme.
The major goal of the occasion was to bridge persistent gaps that hinder the efficient implementation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and to encourage collective accountability and coordination among the many judiciary, prosecution, investigating businesses, administration, and the broader neighborhood. The discussions underscored the essential position of every stakeholder in guaranteeing justice for victims and accountability for offenders.
Eminent audio system together with Mr. Neyaz Alam, Special Judge (POCSO); Ms. Niharikha Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police; Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Director, Social Welfare Department; Mr. Deep Chaim Kabir, Senior Advocate; Mr. D. Ilango, Advocate; and Dr. M. Ashwini Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Forensic Medicine, ANIIMS, shared their views on strengthening the response to offences below the POCSO Act.
A panel dialogue moderated by Mr. Deep Chaim Kabir, Senior Advocate, featured Mr. Samrat Roy, Chief Judicial Magistrate; Mr. Jayanto Mukherjee, Judge, Juvenile Justice Board; Ms. A.S. Zinu and Ms. Tasneem, each Special Public Prosecutors (POCSO); and Dr. Kushal Baidya, Assistant Professor (Psychiatry), ANIIMS. The panel addressed key points and queries raised by stakeholders through the interactive session.
Mr. Rashid Alam, Registrar, Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court, hosted the occasion, delivering the welcome deal with and concluding the programme with a vote of thanks.
