In a bid to advertise sustainable livestock farming and improve the livelihoods of native farmers, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, organized a piggery administration initiative in Swaraj Dweep on July 12, 2025.
The initiative targeted on spreading consciousness about piglet castration, a key administration apply identified to enhance progress efficiency, temperament, and meat high quality in pigs. Veterinary consultants interacted with farmers in the course of the programme, highlighting the scientific and financial advantages of early castration in piglets.
Encouraged by the session, native farmers confirmed enthusiastic participation and requested on-site castration companies. Responding to the demand, the AH&VS staff performed castration on 12 piglets at two small-scale piggery farms on the island, making certain the procedures have been carried out with due care and adherence to animal welfare requirements.
The division’s proactive outreach is seen as a step ahead in bettering animal husbandry practices within the islands whereas supporting the earnings and productiveness of rural livestock farmers.
