The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, has rolled out its formidable ‘Target Two Lakhs’ initiative to distribute over two lakh poultry chicks in the course of the present monetary yr, aiming to boost diet and livelihoods in rural and tribal communities.
The programme was ceremoniously launched on Saturday at Tapoiming village, Car Nicobar, by Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, within the presence of Tribal Council representatives, PRI members, beneficiaries, senior officers, and AH&VS employees.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kumar underscored the important function of livestock in guaranteeing dietary safety and financial resilience for marginal farmers. He urged dad and mom in tribal and rural areas to protect their conventional lifestyle, highlighting its advantages for future generations, and counseled AH&VS for its efforts in including worth to livestock merchandise for higher returns to farmers.

On Saturday alone, 15,010 poultry chicks had been distributed throughout 15 areas, benefiting farmers from Rutland, Munak, Hanspuri, Afra Bay, Pulopanja, Pulobha, Makachua, Pulo-ulu, Pilopatia, Pilobhabi, Indra Nagar, Dhanni Nallah, Mile Tilak, Kamorta, Shoal Bay, and different distant hamlets. Ms. Sarkar reiterated the Department’s dedication to supporting a sustainable rural financial system and dietary safety, with extra farmer-friendly schemes within the pipeline to spice up egg and meat manufacturing within the Islands.
