The award was offered throughout a proper ceremony held on July 12 on the Commissionerate of Fisheries, Chennai, by the Fisheries Technocrats Forum, Chennai. The award honours people who’ve made excellent contributions in fisheries, aquaculture, marine science, and allied disciplines.
Dr. Jha was chosen for his impactful work in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Geographical Information System (GIS), and Hydrological Studies, notably targeted on India’s mainland coast and its oceanic islands. He is amongst 4 eminent scientists and academicians chosen for the 2024 award cycle.
The Ok Chidambaram Memorial Award, named after the late Ok Chidambaram—who held key positions within the Fisheries Departments of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and the Union Government—celebrates innovation, excellence, and management in marine-related fields.
Dr. Jha’s recognition underscores his longstanding dedication to advancing ocean science and sustainable coastal improvement, particularly in ecologically delicate island ecosystems.
