The ICAR–Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, organized a Field Day on “Sea Safety Practices and Applications” at Teetop Village, Car Nicobar, as a part of a DST-funded venture on the Coastal Fisheries Information Hub.
The programme aimed to lift consciousness and strengthen the capability of native fishers on important sea security measures to make sure safer and extra sustainable fishing operations within the islands.
As a part of the coaching, sensible demonstrations have been carried out on the usage of Global Positioning System (GPS), Distress Alert Transmitters (DAT), marine walkie-talkies, life jackets, and life buoys. Fishers have been additionally taken on discipline journeys in open sea circumstances to expertise the real-time functions of those security instruments throughout fishing expeditions.
A complete of 26 fishers from Teetop Village actively participated within the occasion and interacted with the consultants to make clear their queries relating to security procedures and communication protocols whereas at sea.
The Field Day was coordinated by Dr. R. Kiruba Sankar, Mr. Vinay Raj, and Ms. Sonia, underneath the general steering of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR–CIARI.
