A authorities worker posted at Campbell Bay has fallen sufferer to a cyber fraud, leading to a lack of ₹6.57 lakh. The incident occurred on November 28, 2024, when the sufferer obtained a WhatsApp message from an unknown quantity claiming to characterize Punjab National Bank (PNB).
The fraudster, posing as a PNB official, instructed the sufferer to put in a cell utility by a hyperlink shared on WhatsApp. Shortly after putting in the app, the sufferer obtained a video name providing help in establishing the PNB cell app.
Within minutes, the sufferer seen a number of unauthorized transactions from his checking account. Four transactions had been made:
- ₹4,00,000 at 2:53 PM
- ₹99,000 at 3:10 PM
- ₹99,000 at 4:11 PM
- ₹59,000 at 5:54 PM
The complete quantity siphoned off was ₹6.57 lakh. Upon realizing the fraud, the sufferer instantly reported the matter to the Campbell Bay Police Station. A proper criticism was additionally filed on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) with the assistance of SHO PS Campbell Bay on the identical day. The sufferer’s checking account and debit card had been promptly blocked to forestall additional losses.
The Cyber Crime Police Station has registered an FIR below related sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 on fifth of February 2025.
The sufferer has requested the authorities to take swift motion to revive the funds and produce the perpetrators to justice.
