Humfrygunj police have apprehended a person concerned in unlawful wildlife commerce and seized 161 kg of venison (deer meat) in a swift operation at Wandoor Fish Landing Centre.
Acting on a tip-off, police obtained credible data on February 16, 2025, at 9:00 PM about a person transporting venison illegally utilizing a fishing dinghy. The vessel was anticipated to reach at Wandoor Fish Landing Centre. In response, Station House Officer (SHO) Subramani of Police Station Humfrygunj fashioned a staff comprising PCs Raja, Sanjib Kumar Shil, and Periyaswamy to intercept the suspect.
At roughly 9:50 PM, an engine-powered dinghy bearing Registration No. IND-AN-SA-MO-407 reached the jetty. The police staff swiftly approached the vessel and performed an inspection. During the search, an icebox containing three plastic gunny luggage crammed with pink meat, suspected to be venison, was discovered.
In the presence of impartial witnesses, the meat was weighed and confirmed to be 161 kg. The dinghy, together with the contraband, was seized, and the operator, recognized as Deen Bandhu Das (28), son of Late Paritosh Das, a fisherman from New Wandoor, was apprehended following due authorized formalities.
Subsequently, the seized venison, dinghy, and the accused had been handed over to forest officers for additional authorized proceedings.
