India to Quickly Begin Semiconductor Manufacturing, Manufacturing: IT Secretary

Electronics and IT secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma on Tuesday mentioned that the manufacturing of semiconductors within the nation will begin very quickly.

He was responding to a question round plan of motion of the Ministry of Electronics and IT after state-owned firm Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) raised the problem of scarcity of digital chip and printed circuit board (PCB or motherboard) hindering home manufacturing of electrical meters.

“India might be a type of high 6-7 companions which could have semiconductor manufacturing. It will occur very quickly,” Sharma mentioned.

Speaking at a convention on expertise switch by C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram for native manufacturing of sensible meters and electrical chargers, Sharma mentioned Meity has taken lead in expertise growth, be it digital or automotive sector, synthetic intelligence.

“We have taken a lead when it comes to the climate change initiative. One big component is the shift towards green technology, and EV is an important mission in that. Demand is increasing. We need 5,000 chargers at present in the top 20 cities of India. ToT for EV will provide immense benefit to the country,” he mentioned.

The C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram below the National Mission on Power Electronics Technology (NaMPET) programme has developed a Smart Energy Meter based mostly on Indian requirements and is appropriate for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).

Sharma mentioned that the event of native sensible meters will improve effectivity in metering, cut back energy consumption, individuals will get right payments and profit energy distribution corporations.

A senior official from EESL mentioned that it’s a transient section from typical sensible meters to digital sensible meters.
