Hadapsar, eighth December 2022: An officer of a authorities telecom firm mistakenly pressed the Debit card fee button whereas paying for an Ola cab. A cyber thief, benefiting from the scenario, took a mortgage of Rs 14.79 lakh from his checking account and withdrew Rs 3.94 lakh.
A case underneath the Information Technology Act has been registered in opposition to the unknown cell phone holder at Hadapsar police station.
Complainant Shrikant Sahebrao Raut (54), a resident of Hadapsar, works in Andaman Nicobar. He had come to Hadapsar on trip. He had booked an Ola cab from the station. While paying for the cab as soon as he reached dwelling, he by accident pressed the debit card fee button. He instantly cancelled it and gave money to the cab driver.
After this, he acquired a message saying the corporate owed him a refund of Rs 299 from the debit card. He known as the helpline quantity from Google. The assistant requested him to obtain the Any Desk app and advised him to not share the OTP with anybody as a precaution.
After this, Rs 299 was deposited in his account. However, his debit card was blocked, and all his financial institution data was taken away by a cyber thief. He linked his cellular quantity to the complainant’s checking account. After this, a digital mortgage of Rs 14.79 lakh was permitted by the complainant’s financial institution. Out of this quantity, the thief transferred Rs 3.94 lakh to his account. No message on this regard was acquired by the complainant.
After two days, when the complainant went to the financial institution to fill out the passbook, he realised this matter. He contacted the financial institution supervisor and stopped the remaining quantity from being credited to the account of the cyber thief.
