In a major improvement aimed toward bettering city infrastructure within the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, on seventh August 2025, met with Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, on the Parliament House in New Delhi.
During the assembly, Mr. Ray delivered to the Minister’s consideration the long-pending proposal for 49 street initiatives within the municipal areas of the Union Territory. The initiatives, price ₹23.08 crore, have been submitted by the UT Administration underneath the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) in April 2025 and have since been awaiting approval from the Ministry.
Highlighting the deteriorating situation of roads in city municipal areas, Mr. Ray emphasised the each day inconvenience confronted by residents because of the poor state of infrastructure. He urged the Union Minister to intervene for rapid sanction of the proposals to allow pressing repairs and upgradation.
Responding positively, Mr. Gadkari promptly reviewed the matter in the course of the assembly and granted in-principle approval for the proposals. He additional directed Ministry officers to provoke mandatory motion at once.
Expressing gratitude, Mr. Ray thanked the Hon’ble Minister for his swift and decisive intervention. As per the MP’s advice, the sanctioned proposal consists of improvement work of roughly 1 km of street in every of the 24 municipal wards, marking a vital step in the direction of enhancing city infrastructure within the area.
