The National Students Union of India (NSUI) State President for Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. M.A Sajid, met with the Secretary of Education on Friday to voice his opposition to the proposed institution of a Deemed University within the area. Expressing discontent over the Lt. Governor’s resolution to carry a basic physique assembly in favour of the Deemed University amidst youth unrest, Mr. Sajid criticised the shortage of session with pupil unions, trainer unions, stakeholders, and professional academicians.
During the assembly, Mr. Sajid highlighted that the proposal to ascertain a Deemed University was authorised with out contemplating the repeated representations and protests by NSUI since 2019. He expressed concern that beneath the proposed plan, distinguished faculties akin to JNRM, ANCOL, DBRAIT, MGGC, TGCE, Andaman Law College, and ANIIMS can be affiliated with the Deemed University.
Mr. Sajid emphasised that these faculties have been affiliated with Pondicherry University, a Central University with a prestigious rank of 68th within the All India NIRF rating. He cautioned that the institution of a Deemed University would commercialise increased schooling within the Islands, doubtlessly resulting in unregulated charge constructions that would exclude college students from economically deprived backgrounds.
Furthermore, Mr. Sajid raised issues in regards to the appointment of lecturers, warning that it might restrict alternatives for native lecturers within the college, prioritising mainland lecturers as an alternative.
Instead of building a Deemed University, Mr. Sajid proposed the institution of a Central University to reinforce the standard of upper schooling and promote analysis within the Islands, with a give attention to sustaining a low charge construction for college students.
Mr. Sajid urged the Secretary of Education to rethink the proposal for the Deemed University and protect the present system of affiliating faculties with Pondicherry University, emphasising the advantages for college students and the preservation of upper schooling within the Islands.
Highlighting the potential penalties, Mr. Sajid cautioned that if the Administration proceeds with the Deemed University proposal, NSUI will interact in steady agitations that would disrupt the schooling sector. Additionally, the organisation plans to conduct campaigns to coach youths in regards to the disadvantages of enrolling within the Deemed University.
