The much-awaited Saras Mela 2025 was inaugurated on Friday on the ITF Ground by Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, and Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration. The ceremony, held within the presence of Ms. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, IGP, and different senior officers, witnessed enthusiastic participation from SHGs, artisans, and guests from throughout the Islands and three different States.
The occasion was additionally attended by Mr. Rajesh Chopra, Secretary (RD); Dr. Apurva Sharma, Director (RD/P); and PRIs, who lauded the efforts of the Rural Development Department and SHG ladies in selling conventional crafts, native merchandise, and rural entrepreneurship.
Saras Mela 2025 brings collectively Self-Help Groups from varied States, providing a vibrant show of handloom, handicrafts, tribal crafts, natural meals merchandise, conventional cuisines, and charming cultural performances. The mela goals to strengthen advertising and marketing linkages for rural producers, improve livelihood alternatives, and rejoice India’s cultural richness.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary emphasised the significance of empowering rural ladies via sustainable livelihood actions and appreciated the numerous position performed by SHGs in uplifting the agricultural financial system.
The mela will stay open to the general public within the coming days, offering a singular alternative for guests to expertise the variety and vibrancy of rural India underneath one roof.
