NBA legend Carmelo Anthony shared an amazing story in regards to the late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant on the most recent episode of his “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast.
Speaking along with his visitor, former Lakers and present New York Knicks star Julius Randle, the 40-year-old deadly scorer recalled an occasion through the Team USA tryouts for the 2008 Summer Olympics involving Bryant and newly appointed Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick.
“I remember Kobe couldn’t stand JJ Reddick. The moral of the story, Kobe took it personal against JJ Redick in practice because he got tired of Coach K talking about JJ Redick. Kobe took it very, very personal to the point where he was running through screens in practice,” the ten-time NBA All-Star stated.
Redick was a longtime participant below then Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski throughout his school basketball tenure at Duke University.
“He was denying JJ the ball. Fouling the s**t out of JJ. I’m like, why are you treating the young boy like that?,” Anthony added.
JJ Redick didn’t make it to the ultimate Team USA roster
Unfortunately, Redick wasn’t capable of make the ultimate minimize of the Team USA roster that went on to compete and win the gold medal within the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
Meanwhile, Bryant turned the chief of the star-studded staff as captain, serving to them defeat Spain within the gold medal sport 118-107.
Redick was not capable of play in a serious match for Team USA for the remainder of his profession, whereas Bryant went on to win another Olympic gold medal within the subsequent Summer Olympics in 2012 in London.
