The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, in collaboration with the Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), organized a two-day coaching programme on Artificial Insemination (AI) in goats on August 18 and 19, 2025, on the CIARI complicated. The initiative aimed toward enhancing goat farming productiveness and strengthening rural livelihoods by superior reproductive strategies.
The classes have been led by Dr. T. Perumal, Senior Scientist (Animal Reproduction), and Dr. Prakash Bala, Principal Scientist (Nutrition), from CIARI’s Animal Science Division. Inaugurating the programme, Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, CIARI, lauded the AH&VS initiative and urged individuals to undertake AI strategies to profit goat farmers throughout the Islands.
On the primary day, 9 Senior Veterinary Officers attended the coaching, whereas 29 Veterinary Compounders took half on the second day. The individuals underwent hands-on coaching in semen assortment from bucks and insemination in does, with sensible demonstrations on the CIARI Goat Farm. The programme concluded with a laboratory session on high quality management and semen preparation for insemination.
As a part of its goat growth technique, the AH&VS Department additionally plans to obtain semen straws of superior breeds resembling Beetal and Sirohi to improve native goat varieties. Officials stated the transfer will assist enhance meat and milk manufacturing whereas enhancing the socio-economic circumstances of rural and tribal communities within the Union Territory.
