The three-day Theatre Festival organised by the Directorate of Art & Culture, A&N Administration, in collaboration with the National School of Drama (NSD), concluded on Sunday night with the staging of the play ‘Babuji’ at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium, SVPMC. The closing efficiency drew an appreciative gathering of theatre fanatics.
The pageant was held as a part of the twenty fifth Bharat Rang Mahotsav – International Theatre Festival of India, organised by NSD, New Delhi. The prestigious occasion introduced acclaimed theatrical productions to the Islands, providing native audiences a chance to witness nationally recognised performances over three days.
Written by famous creator Mithileshwar, tailored for the stage by Vibhanshu Vaibhav and directed by Rajesh Singh, ‘Babuji’ offered a poignant and socially reflective narrative centred on a conventional Indian household. The play revolved round an ageing patriarch—affectionately known as Babuji—who symbolises values comparable to honesty, sacrifice, self-discipline and quiet resilience.
Having devoted his life to nurturing and supporting his household, Babuji regularly finds himself marginalised in a quickly altering social panorama formed by materials ambitions and shifting priorities. Through layered dialogues and real looking portrayals, the manufacturing highlighted the emotional isolation typically skilled by elders regardless of their lifelong sacrifices.
