Four qualification matchups can be performed September 8-9, 2026, in Berlin, Germany, to find out the remaining quarter-finalists on the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026, which runs September 4-13.
The winners of the 4 matchups will advance to the quarter-finals as follows: the Hungary/Japan winner performs the United States, the Germany/Korea winner performs Belgium, the Puerto Rico/China winner performs France, and the Italy/Australia winner performs Spain.
September 8
Hungary vs. Japan — 17:45 native time / 15:45 GMT
Hungary has not reached the highest eight of the match in 40 years. Hungary’s roster contains Dorka Juhász and Virág Takács-Kiss. After Hungary’s group-phase win over Nigeria, Juhász instructed FIBA Basketball:
“After yesterday’s disappointment we needed to be more connected and to play with more fire, more heart and that was our focus. I am happy we kept our composure and connectivity.”
Takács-Kiss mentioned of that win:
“Each of us showed character and I am so happy I can barely even talk – just about how we played and how aggressive we were. We beat a really good team.”
Japan final reached the quarter-finals in 1979. Ahead of the match, Japan guard Mai Yamamoto mentioned:
“This is an extremely competitive group, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see any team make it past the Group Phase. Every game will be a tough battle.”
Teammate Kokoro Tanaka mentioned:
“Even as we face strong opponents, we will play the style of basketball that defines Japan. Fast on offense, relentless on defense, and staying aggressive.”
The winner will play the United States within the quarter-finals.
Germany vs. Korea — 20:45 native time / 18:45 GMT
Germany, the match host, has not beforehand reached the quarter-finals. After a group-phase win over Mali, Germany ahead Leonie Fiebich mentioned:
“We’ve played on really big stages. We know how to play. I think we have like a really good mix of experience and young players.”
Teammate Nyara Sabally mentioned:
“We didn’t come out the way we wanted to. But we always believed in ourselves. We can play better basketball, and I feel like we’ve shown that over the past few days.”
Korea final reached the quarter-finals in 2010. The winner will play Belgium within the quarter-finals.

Puerto Rico vs. China — 17:45 native time / 15:45 GMT
Puerto Rico reached the quarter-finals for the primary time in 2022. Puerto Rico’s roster contains Trinity San Antonio, Imani McGee-Stafford, and Arella Guirantes.
China reached the ultimate in 2022. China’s roster contains Xu Han and Zhang Ziyu. Of Zhang, a 7-foot-4 teenager taking part in in her first World Cup, Han mentioned:
“She’s a young girl. In life, she’s just a little girl, and this is her first national team game [at the World Cup level]. I feel like if me and her both go to the court together, I always want to give her good energy.”

Italy vs. Australia — 20:45 native time / 18:45 GMT
Italy has not reached the quarter-finals since 1979. Italy’s roster contains Cecilia Zandalasini, who mentioned after a 55-52 group-phase loss to the United States:
“We waited 32 years to be here and we deserve to be here – we showed that tonight. We deserved a spot in this tournament and on the biggest stage. We have a great coach that really believes in us.”
Australia has reached the rostrum in every of the earlier three World Cups. Australia misplaced to Belgium within the group section. Australia’s roster contains Ezi Magbegor and Steph Talbot.
The winner will play Spain within the quarter-finals.
