In a big step in the direction of strengthening the cultural and academic infrastructure of Car Nicobar, the inspiration stone for the renovation and modernisation of the District Library Building was laid on December 12, 2025. The milestone occasion marks the start of the transformation of the prevailing library into a contemporary, state-of-the-art information centre for the island.
The basis stone was laid within the presence of Mr. Amit Kale, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, and Mr. Lionald Nicomede, Chairman, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, together with officers and representatives from varied departments.
The long-awaited upgradation of the District Library is being undertaken with the assist of the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF) below the National Mission on Libraries (NML), Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The mission goals to boost public entry to information sources whereas aligning the power with modern library requirements.
Under the scheme, the library can be upgraded with improved infrastructure, digital and IT-based library providers, and modernised public entry services. Special emphasis can even be laid on creating inclusive infrastructure to cater to the wants of specifically abled individuals, making certain accessibility for all sections of society.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted that the modernised library would transcend typical studying areas by providing superior digital services. He additionally introduced the introduction of a singular Musical Arts Room, a completely soundproof audio recording facility geared up with a spread of musical devices. Funded by the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP), the power is envisioned to nurture creativity and supply college students and youth of Car Nicobar with alternatives to develop and showcase their musical skills.
Earlier, a welcome handle was delivered by Mr. Swapan Paik, Education Officer, Car Nicobar, who underlined the significance of libraries as centres of studying and neighborhood engagement. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Everlyn, Vice Principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Malacca.
