The long-pending land conversion and diversion course of within the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, halted for the previous 5 years, has formally resumed, bringing aid to landowners, non-public enterprises, NGOs, and different organisations affected by delays in housing, industrial, and group infrastructure initiatives.
Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, had raised the difficulty with the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble Home Minister, fulfilling a promise made in his 2024 Lok Sabha election manifesto. Following his repeated representations, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the UT Administration to renew the land conversion/diversion course of.
In a letter dated 8 August 2025 to Mr. Ray, the UT Administration confirmed that the method has recommenced. NOCs have already been issued for a number of authorities schemes, together with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). Additionally, 20 beforehand stalled instances have been processed, and over 100 listening to notices have been issued by the Revenue Department. The disposal of remaining pending instances is underway.
Expressing his gratitude, MP Bishnu Pada Ray thanked the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and UT Administration for his or her swift motion. He emphasised that the resumption of land conversion/diversion will empower landowners to make the most of their property for residential, industrial, and group improvement initiatives, paving the way in which for renewed progress and progress within the Islands.
