Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, has written to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister requesting a rise within the higher age restrict for recruitment to Group-B (Non-Gazetted) and Group-C posts beneath the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
In his letter, Mr. Ray sought fixation of the utmost age restrict at 40 years, together with a further five-year rest for everlasting residents of the Islands — much like a latest order issued for the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The MP referred to his earlier communication dated 26 July 2025 and expressed concern that regardless of a number of representations, the Administration continues to observe the prevailing age standards. He said that the present norms have rendered many native aspirants ineligible for presidency employment, particularly given the geographical isolation, delayed entry to greater training and restricted employment avenues within the Islands.
Mr. Ray famous that a number of states and Union Territories — together with Ladakh, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam and Haryana — have already revised the higher age restrict to between 40 and 42 years in response to socio-economic realities and delayed entry of youth into the job market.
He additional highlighted challenges distinctive to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, resembling a small authorities employment sector, remoteness affecting academic alternatives, excessive prices related to searching for jobs on the mainland, and a rising variety of certified youth dropping eligibility resulting from outdated age norms.
In his enchantment to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Ray requested:
- Fixing the higher age restrict at 40 years for all Group-B (Non-Gazetted) and Group-C posts beneath the A&N Administration.
- Providing a further five-year rest for native candidates/everlasting residents, consistent with the Ladakh framework.
The MP said that such a measure could be a “much-needed relief” for island youth, restoring equity, confidence and equal alternative in authorities recruitment.
