The Kentucky Wildcats suffered a disappointing exit from the 2024 NCAA males’s basketball match of their opening sport.
Despite being the No. 3 seed within the South Region, Kentucky was upset by No. 14 seed Oakland University, falling with the ultimate rating of 80-76 within the first spherical on Thursday, March 21, at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Kentucky head coach John Calipari appeared to attribute the crew’s loss to their gamers’ lack of expertise underneath the brilliant lights of the match.
“We made some critical mistakes at critical times again today. When you have a really young team and look at where the mistakes come from, they were freshmen,” the 65-year-old tactician stated.

Kentucky has now been eradicated within the first spherical of the NCAA match in two out of the final three years, following an 85-79 time beyond regulation loss to No. 15 seed Saint Peter’s within the 2022 match.
Jack Gohlke leads Oakland in beautiful victory
Senior guard Jack Gohlke propelled the Golden Grizzlies to their first NCAA match win, tallying 32 factors with a powerful efficiency from past the arc by sinking ten three-pointers.

“I know I’m not going to the NBA, [but] I can compete with those type of guys,” he stated on the post-game interview.
