A newly constructed Transit Hostel at Kamorta Island was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar, Mr. Amit Kale, IAS, in a ceremony held on twenty fourth September 2025.
The inaugural occasion was attended by Mr. Aditya Sangotra, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry; Mr. Charles Jacob, Chairperson, Tribal Council Kamorta; and Ms. Aysha Majid, Chairperson, Tribal Council Nancowry.
The 25-room (50-bedded) hostel has been developed as a serious infrastructure increase for the Nancowry Group of Islands. It is aimed toward offering non permanent lodging to authorities staff posted at Kamorta, in addition to college students and residents touring from neighbouring islands equivalent to Katchal, Teressa, and Chowra.
In addition, the power may even function a much-needed shelter for attendants of sufferers from distant villages like Kakana, Upper Katchal, Banderkadi, Pilpillow, and Daring, who usually journey lengthy distances for medical therapy.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the significance of the hostel in bridging logistical challenges and making certain the welfare of tribal communities. Leaders of the Tribal Councils expressed their gratitude, noting that the power would play a significant function in bettering connectivity and help throughout the islands. (Story Based on PR)
