Mr. Rangalal Halder, President of the Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee, has urged the A&N Administration to deal with the urgent want for dialysis amenities on the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Billiground.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Halder highlighted the numerous challenges confronted by residents of Basantipur, Harinagar, Swadeshnagar, Betapur, and surrounding areas, which collectively home a inhabitants of 20,000–25,000 individuals. He identified that 5–8 sufferers within the area presently require common dialysis. However, the dearth of dialysis machines at PHC Billiground compels these sufferers to undertake lengthy and arduous journeys to Mayabunder or Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair) for remedy.

“Timely access to dialysis is critical for these patients, as the absence of local facilities creates unnecessary suffering and inconvenience, particularly for those already grappling with chronic kidney conditions,” Mr. Halder acknowledged.

The Congress chief emphasised the monetary, emotional, and bodily toll these long-distance travels impose on sufferers and their households. To alleviate this burden and guarantee equitable entry to healthcare, he urged the administration to put in 2–4 dialysis machines at PHC Billiground.

The demand displays a rising want for improved healthcare infrastructure in rural and semi-urban areas of North & Middle Andaman, aiming to supply well timed and accessible medical providers to all.
