The basis stone for a state-of-the-art Wholesale-cum-Retail Fish Market at Bathubasti, Sri Vijaya Puram, was unveiled on Monday throughout a live-streamed session of the Coastal States Meet 2025 held in Mumbai.
The unveiling was led by Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Minister of Panchayati Raj. He was joined by Mr. SP Singh Baghel and Mr. George Kurian, each Ministers of State within the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, and holding extra portfolios within the Ministries of Panchayati Raj and Minority Affairs, respectively.
More than 200 stakeholders, together with fishers, fish distributors, fisherwomen, PRI representatives, and Fisheries Department officers participated enthusiastically within the live-streamed ceremony.
The upcoming fish market will likely be developed over a 750-square-meter plot, with a built-up space of 300 sq. meters. It is designed to boost the effectivity, hygiene, and sustainability of fish advertising and marketing and distribution within the area.
Key options of the market will embody:
• A raised platform for hygienic show and sale of fish
• Separate sections for fish reducing
• Covered drainage system
• Overhead water tank
• A pre-fabricated chilly storage unit
• Administrative workplace and public utilities together with rest room blocks
• Rainwater harvesting and waste composting amenities
• Retaining wall for help and a motorable entry street
• Advanced chilling tools to take care of product freshness
Once operational, the power is anticipated to accommodate greater than 80 distributors, each people and cooperatives, and cater to the each day wants of an estimated 40,000 to 45,000 residents within the surrounding areas. The venture is seen as a significant increase to native livelihoods and a major step ahead for the area’s fisheries sector.
