Guwahati: A person was arrested in Bongaigaon district of Assam for his alleged involvement in cybercrimes, largely in monetary issues, police stated on Wednesday.
According to a senior officer of the Assam Police, a number of raids have been carried out on Tuesday within the state in coordination with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“We conducted the raids in Bongaigaon and Majuli on the basis of cases registered with the Assam Police. One person was arrested from Bongaigaon during the raid,” he added.
Another accused, hailing from Majuli, has been lacking, along with his household and locals claiming that he has not returned to the village since 2004, the officer instructed PTI.
The investigators seized a cell phone and a few paperwork from the arrested individual in Bongaigaon, and recovered a replica NRC record from the residence of the Majuli suspect, he added.
The Assam Police acted on the premise of various instances registered with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in 2019, the officer stated.
The CBI on Tuesday launched ‘Operation Chakra’ in coordination with Interpol, FBI and police forces of a number of nations towards cyber criminals concerned in monetary crimes, finishing up searches at 115 places with police forces in a number of states.
The CBI has registered 11 instances towards cyber criminals concerned in monetary frauds utilizing the web and the company carried out searches at 87 places in 16 states, whereas 28 places have been raided by the state police forces.
Police Forces of eight states and union territories, together with Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Assam, Karnataka, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh and Haryana, participated within the operation, CBI stated in an announcement.
The businesses have seized about Rs 1.8 crore in money and 1.5 kg gold, whereas financial institution accounts with an quantity of round Rs 1.89 crore have been frozen in Karnataka.
