Yankees Rout Red Sox 9-0 in Wild Card Opener as Schlittler, Rice Torment Hometown Crew

Cam Schlittler struck out 10 batters over a dominant outing and Ben Rice launched two house runs with six RBI Tuesday evening because the New York Yankees routed the Boston Red Sox 9-0 in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium.

The efficiency carried a definite subplot: each Schlittler and Rice are Massachusetts natives who turned their home-state allegiances in opposition to the rival Red Sox on the most important stage of the yr. Schittler fanned 10 hitters and blanked the Red Sox lineup from begin to end.

Rice matched him on the plate. The first baseman’s two-homer efficiency drove house six of the Yankees’ 9 runs, staking New York to a lead that was by no means threatened.

Boston starter Payton Tolle was tagged with the loss, unable to suppress a lineup that produced runs in bunches. The Red Sox completed with zero runs on the board in opposition to Schlittler and the New York bullpen, a shutout that leaves them in a precarious place within the best-of-three collection.

Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.
